We carry out this mission with 55 partners in 20 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the US. Our job is to increase coverage for healthcare during pregnancy and childbirth, increase stock availability for essential medicines, protect the vaccine cold chain, increase early detection and treatment for infectious disease, and increase support for remote health workers and families.

Director of Finance and Operations

Medic Mobile is growing in order to achieve scale and reach for our high-impact tools. As part of our team’s expansion, we are searching for a full-time Director of Finance and Operations. This person will be a member of the Executive Team and will be responsible for participating executive functions including strategy and decision making, business development as well as representing Medic Mobile both internally and externally at conferences and other relevant venues.

The position will work closely with our CEO, Regional Directors, Partnerships Director, Head Accountant, and product team. The Director of Finance and Operations will support our regional teams in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and will report directly to our CEO. Ideal candidates will be passionate about our mission and experienced in product strategy, financial strategy, growth operations, business models, and global health.

We expect this position to be based in San Francisco, but we will hire the right person wherever they are. This role will involve intermittent international travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement new product and service packages in order to further our impact goals.
  • Take full ownership of the P&L and financial model including all reporting and accounting duties.
  • Support our product team and regional teams as we develop new business and delivery models.
  • Manage our human resources activities and processes, supporting a growing team.

  • Develop cost/benefit models to optimize impact and prioritize resource allocation.
  • Advise on global business operations during a high-growth period, including technology platforms and processes.
  • Lead discussions with senior leadership and the Board of Directors focused on all financial and operational indicators.
  • Communicate our mission, capabilities, evidence base, and approach to prospective partners, such as international NGOs, US government agencies, UN agencies, corporate partners, and funding partners.
  • Represent Medic Mobile at partnership meetings and public fora, leading to new initiatives and impact in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the US.

Senior Web Developers

We’re seeking two talented, dedicated, and passionate software developers to join our distributed software development team.

You

  • Have coursework or experience equivalent to an undergraduate computer science or mathematics degree
  • Live and breathe web technologies: HTTP, SSL/TLS, REST, JSON, WebRTC, Canvas, WebGL, HTML 5, IndexedDB, WebSQL, offline applications, cache manifests
  • Are comfortable and fully productive in a UNIX-like environment: you can script your way out of just about anything, and build the software you need from source code if necessary
  • Have substantial experience with object/module-oriented Javascript on Node.js and in the browser: you’ve published an npm module, know the difference between requirejs and AMD, and have written a ton of asynchronous or continuation-driven code
  • Are proficient with a wide variety of database systems — relational, hierarchical, and document-based
  • Have developed, deployed, and maintained production web applications
  • Are passionate about open source software development and open standards

Position Details

The Senior Web Application Developer reports directly to Medic Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer, and is responsible for the full development lifecycle of Medic Mobile’s web-based mobile health software.

Software Development: 85%

  • Design, build, document, and ship software that improves health care outcomes in the developing world
  • Work with Medic Mobile and its clients along the entire software development lifecycle: understand client problems, capture requirements, design modular software systems, write great software, and document everything along the way
  • Participate in daily stand-up meetings, weekly iteration reviews, and monthly milestone reviews
  • Learn new languages, platforms, toolkits, libraries, tools, and application development paradigms as necessary
  • Contribute directly to open-source and free software projects as appropriate

Strategic Planning: 5%

  • Work with the CTO and development team to guide platform development and technical strategy
  • Evaluate tools and technologies; develop long-term software and platform roadmaps

Partnerships: 10%

  • Work effectively, independently, and efficiently with peers, clients, and other project stakeholders

Project Coordinator – mHealth for Maternal and Child Health in Nepal

Nyaya Health and Medic Mobile are jointly seeking a Project Coordinator to support their m-health activities in the district of Achham in rural Nepal. The overarching goal of the position is to strengthen the linkages between community and hospital-based services in maternal and child health in Achham through m-health based monitoring and support systems. As part of on-going m-health projects with Nyaya Health and Medic Mobile, the Project Coordinator will work closely with Nyaya Health staff at Bayalpata Hospital in  Achham while at the same time coordinating activities with Medic Mobile personnel in Kathmandu. The position will report directly to the Project Manager-Nepal for Medic Mobile. However,  they will also be reporting on a day to day basis to the Director of Community Health at Nyaya Health  based in Bayalpata Hospital.

Job Duties

  • Provide ongoing support for daily operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all of Nyaya Health’s mHealth projects
  • Work with field implementers of the m-health program at the VDC level to ensure:
    • Timely collection and transmission of reliable monitoring data
    • Joint analysis and common understanding of the implication of the monitoring data
    • Development of appropriate actions to address these implications
  • Assists with implementation of various m-health projects in Achham
    • Support system testing and installation
    • Work with Nyaya Health’s team on the ground to define training approaches, and develop training materials
    • Supervise and deliver training and information sessions
    • Run user testing sessions throughout the project’s pilot phase to ensure user issues are addressed
  • Prepare regular project status reports (to be submitted to Nyaya Health and Medic Mobile)
  • Submit photos and blogs to Nyaya Health’s and Medic Mobile’s websites
  • Complete all reports required by the funding agency/ies.
  • Act as a liaison between Nyaya Health and Medic Mobile’s Nepal team
  • Perform other job duties as needed from time to time including but not limited to: coordination of local travel for Medic Mobile staff, coordination of field visits by donor institutions, reports/project status summaries as needed on a priority basis.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing with extensive experience in field implementation of public health programs
  • Commitment of one year
  • Tech savvy; ability to learn to use new technology proficiently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team, and manage multiple tasks
  • Fluent in both English and Nepali language, both speaking and reading/writing
  • Ability to live and work in resource poor rural setting
  • Ability to travel by foot to remote parts of Achham

Desired

  • Previous experience in m-health
  • Previous experience writing reports for major donor institutions such as DFID, USAID and AusAid

Location

Project Manager – Bangladesh

Medic Mobile seeks a Project Manager to support the organization with project management, project development , grant writing and research for projects in Bangladesh. This role is critical to Medic Mobile’s ability to fulfill its mission in Bangladesh. The project manager will work with a committed, highly skilled team. Reporting to the Regional Director, the Project Manager will have the day to day responsibilities for Medic Mobile’s projects within Bangladesh and is expected to have a high degree of operational independence

Location: Dhaka,Bangladesh

Start date: March 2014

Length of Commitment: Minimum 1 year contract

Tasks and responsibilities will include: 

  • Coordinating the activities of all Medic Mobile partners on the ground in Bangladesh
  • Day to day management of all Medic Mobile projects in Bangladesh.
  • Monthly reporting to Regional Director and other stakeholders on Medic Mobile projects in Bangladesh.
  • Liaise with Ministry of Health, large INGOs and community groups as required.
  • Researching available and applicable grants and potential funders.
  • Preparing background materials for grant proposals
  • Assist in drafting competitive grant proposals
  • Conducting background research for in-country projects
  • Performing other administrative duties as required.

Requirements:

  • University Degree in Public Health, Development or other relevant field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team, and manage multiple priorities
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivated
  • Keen interest in non-profit sector, mobile health, global health or development
  • Previous experience in mHealth a plus.
